After the Berkeley Balcony collapse, legislation was written in an effort to prevent additional injuries and deaths due to hidden damage within elevated structures, such as balconies, walkways, and entrance landings. After much debate, Senate Bill 326 was signed into law, and is now known as Civil Code 5551. Since then, confusion surrounding the complexity of the law, and it’s implementation, has created challenges for condominium communities across California, as well as the community managers and boards of directors that serve them. We are here to help!
